Product Description

Terminalia bellirica, commonly known as Bibhitaki, is a large deciduous tree native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its seedless fruits have been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, especially as a rejuvenating and detoxifying agent. Bibhitaki is considered one of the three key herbs in the traditional Triphala formulation, alongside Amalaki and Haritaki, and has historically been used to promote digestive balance, support respiratory health, and maintain overall wellness. The plant belongs to the Combretaceae family and grows as a tall tree with spreading branches, rough bark, and small greenish-yellow flowers. The seedless fruits are oval shaped, fibrous, and turn from green to yellow-brown upon ripening. After harvesting, the fruits are dried and used in powdered form, decoctions, or as part of multi herb formulations. Bibhitaki fruits contain tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, and phenolic compounds, which contribute to their antioxidant, astringent, and mild laxative properties. Traditionally, Bibhitaki fruits are valued for their ability to support digestive health, regulate bowel movements, promote respiratory wellness, and maintain internal cleansing. The fruit is often included in herbal teas, powders, and classical Ayurvedic formulations for its gentle yet effective therapeutic effects. Safety measures: When used in proper doses, Bibhitaki is safe and well tolerated, but overuse may lead to mild digestive discomfort.
